The IDEC SPORT trimaran opens a new chapter in its remarkable story
Some boats define an era. Others continue to make history.
For almost twenty years, the IDEC SPORT trimaran has been one of those exceptional multihulls that have become true icons of offshore racing. Around-the-world records, legendary ocean crossings, Route du Rhum victories… she carries a legacy forged across the world’s oceans through outstanding performances and the men and women who have sailed her.
This November, that story will continue.
For the 2026 Route du Rhum – Destination Guadeloupe, the trimaran will compete under the IDEC SPORT – CIC colours. At the helm, Alexia Barrier will take on one of offshore sailing’s greatest challenges: a solo transatlantic race in the prestigious ULTIM category.

A legacy passed from one generation to the next
A boat of this calibre is about far more than performance alone.
She carries memories, records, victories and a relentless pursuit of excellence, passed from one generation of sailors to the next.
Winner of the Route du Rhum on three occasions under different identities and holder of several major around-the-world records, the IDEC SPORT trimaran has become one of the defining symbols of modern offshore racing.
Every sailor who steps aboard knows they are joining an already extraordinary story—and that the next chapter is still waiting to be written.

Taking on a new challenge
Having completed an around-the-world campaign with The Famous Project in pursuit of the Jules Verne Trophy, Alexia Barrier continues her journey at the highest level of offshore sailing.
Aboard the 32-metre trimaran, she will take the helm of a yacht whose history is as inspiring as it is formidable.
“Stepping aboard IDEC SPORT – CIC on my own means accepting that I’ll be pushed beyond my comfort zone every single day. That’s exactly what motivates me. I’m not coming to the Route du Rhum simply to take part—I’m here to learn, to grow, and to write a new chapter in my own sailing story.” Alexia Barrier
Like all those who have written some of the greatest chapters in this trimaran’s history before her*, she will need to combine commitment, technical expertise, endurance and clear judgement to unlock the full potential of this living legend.
*Francis Joyon (2018), Loïck Peyron aboard Banque Populaire VII (2014) and Franck Cammas aboard Groupama 3 (2010).

A collective adventure
Although the Route du Rhum is a solo race, it remains the result of a collective commitment.
Since the very first miles of The Famous Project, IDEC SPORT, CIC and Sopra Steria have supported this adventure with the same conviction: the projects that push back boundaries are also the ones that inspire for generations.
Beyond the sporting challenge, Alexia Barrier also continues her work with younger generations through her 4myplanet foundation, convinced that discovering the ocean also means learning how to protect it.

For Patrice Lafargue, Chairman of Groupe IDEC, this new challenge is a natural continuation of the trimaran’s extraordinary journey.
“Alexia Barrier embodies everything that drives us at IDEC SPORT: boldness, excellence and the determination to push beyond what seems possible. Seeing her take the helm of IDEC SPORT – CIC for the Route du Rhum is a truly special moment. This trimaran is one of offshore racing’s great icons. What makes us especially proud is that she continues to write her story, season after season, with the same ambition and uncompromising standards. Our commitment alongside Alexia since the very beginning is no coincidence. Her determination to pursue what no one has yet dared to achieve perfectly reflects the mindset that drives our own ambitions. We have complete confidence in her ability to rise to this new challenge.” Patrice Lafargue, Chairman of Groupe IDEC
On 1 November, the fleet will set sail from Saint-Malo.
For Alexia Barrier, it will mark the beginning of a new challenge. For the IDEC SPORT trimaran, it will be another chapter in an extraordinary story. Because legends do not live in memories. They continue to sail.
