THE FAMOUS PROJECT CIC – LOG BOOK – DAY 15

Sunday, December 14 – Giving up was not an option

A major mechanical failure has affected the crew of The Famous Project CIC and the maxi trimaran IDEC SPORT. The mainsail remains stubbornly stuck at the second reef. Hook or no hook, reduced sail area or not, the decision is unanimous: the adventure continues.

The eight sailors will therefore see it through to the end!

The long road to the Jules Verne Trophy continues. The Famous Project CIC will keep its promises. “Because a dream is a lie if it doesn’t come true.” (Bruce Springsteen – The River).

Even if this alteration jeopardizes speed, and therefore the figures and consequently the record attempt, it does not compromise the safety of the women on board, nor the history they have decided to write together aboard the maxi-trimaran in this unassisted, non-stop round-the-world voyage.

The new challenge has been accepted, adding even more excitement, spice, and merit to this journey of discovery and unknowns. Alexia Barrier and her seven crew members will sail differently, sometimes under sail, with different angles to the wind and different ways of carrying their headsails.

As Patrice Lafargue said at the launch of The Famous Project CIC: “Our trimaran has a unique history. Seeing it today entrusted to an all-female crew ready to take on one of the most demanding challenges in sport is a source of immense pride. The Jules Verne Trophy is a human and technological adventure, and we are honored to be writing a new page in its history.

At IDEC SPORT, we can only applaud this wise decision and support these eight women who are motivated and determined to make their mark on their sport by becoming the first female crew to complete the Jules Verne Trophy. We often say internally that there is no sport without desire, humility, and passion.

So…let’s go!
