Thursday, December 11 – Heading for the Southern Ocean
The girls are making progress toward their goal, with 2,500 miles still to go before entering a whole new dimension of racing. With the helm repaired, it’s time to prepare the equipment for the upcoming entry into the Southern Ocean.

Repair and verification
Yesterday, the crew noticed that the starboard helm had jammed: a defective part in the water helm. The whole team divided up the tasks, hands in the grease, heads in the solution. And… Bravo Molly! Because, as Alexia Barrier said, “Molly… did what Molly does. In her corner, focused, inspired… She found unlikely parts, repaired the impossible, and brought the damaged part back to life. I am so proud of her.” The girls also took the opportunity to do a complete check of the steering system and the mast. The maxi-trimaran continues on its way with its eight sailors, ready to tackle this new feat.

Preparing for the Southern Ocean
On board the maxi-trimaran, the sailors are anticipating and preparing their gear for the Southern Ocean, their cold-weather equipment, and adjusting their maneuvers. In constant contact with the routing team, they are closely monitoring the icebergs south of Cape Town and the low-pressure system coming in from South America… They are looking for the right place to enter the Indian Ocean without getting “blown away” right from the start.
