ELMS 2026 – P4 and P7 on the starting grid in Barcelona

IDEC SPORT confirmed its strong performance in Barcelona with a solid showing in free practice and a qualifying session that saw the team secure 4th and 7th places. The French team heads into the race with a solid strategic foundation despite stiff competition.

Constructive Free Practice Sessions

During the two free practice sessions at the Barcelona circuit, IDEC SPORT demonstrated an encouraging level of competitiveness. The main objective was clear: to gauge their standing against the competition.

During these collective test days, every detail counts. IDEC SPORT had 1.5 hours of track time per day, precious time to fine-tune the setups and gauge their position against the competition.

Methodical work on both cars

IDEC SPORT adopts a structured approach by utilizing both of its prototypes to research, experiment with, and validate setups. This strategy allows for effective cross-referencing of data and finding the setups best suited to each crew.

A comprehensive effort carried out with the drivers that allows them to tackle the rest of the weekend Qualifying simulation with new tires, long runs and tire degradation management, fuel consumption studies and technical adjustments.

These free practice sessions thus laid a solid foundation.

An overall satisfactory qualifying session

At the end of qualifying, IDEC SPORT placed its two cars in 4th and 7th positions on the starting grid. An overall satisfactory result, even if the initial goal was to place both cars in the top 5.

We finished fourth and seventh. […] I would have liked to have both in the top 5. That’s the nature of qualifying. We were just missing that little something,” says Nicolas Minassian, the team principal.

Securing a spot in the top five remains a key objective in endurance racing:

  • Reduced risk of incidents at the start
  • Better strategic control
  • Greater flexibility in case of unforeseen events

With a car in P4, IDEC SPORT nevertheless secures an important strategic position for the start of the race.

Preparation focused on the race

Now, the goal is clear: to turn this potential into a race result.

IDEC SPORT retains solid strategic options and remains fully focused on the main objective. “Now that qualifying is behind us, we need to refocus on the race.

A key factor: the weather

One final element could shake things up: the weather conditions.

While the forecast remains stable for now, potential rain on Sunday could play a decisive role in strategy.

IDEC SPORT ready to play a leading role

Between convincing free practice sessions, efficient organization, and a solid qualifying performance (P4 and P7), IDEC SPORT arrives well-prepared for the race in Barcelona. With a pace confirmed in the top 5 and a perfectly structured team, all the ingredients are in place to aim for a top result.

The 4 Hours of Barcelona will start on Sunday, April 12 at 12 p.m. The race will be broadcast live and in its entirety.
