IDEC SPORT ROUNDED CAPE HORN AFTER 31 DAYS 1 HOUR AND 47 MINUTES

IDEC SPORT rounded the legendary Cape Horn at 0350hrs UTC on Tuesday night. Francis Joyon and his crew of five took 31 days 1 hour 47 minutes to sail from Ushant to the tip of South America.

The Horn and the Pacific are now behind them. The men on IDEC SPORT are now tackling the climb back up the South Atlantic. As they rounded the Horn, they were only 3h29 behind the time set by Loïck Peyron. The bigger Banque Populaire V took 30 days 22 hours and 18 minutes.

In spite of a difficult final approach to the Horn, this is a good result for Francis Joyon (FRA), Bernard Stamm (SUI), Gwénolé Gahinet (FRA), Alex Pella (ESP), Clément Surtel (FRA) and Boris Herrmann (GER).

IDEC SPORT’s average speed over the 20,370 miles actually sailed between Ushant and Cape Horn was impressive: 27.3 knots.
