On Monday 28th May, following on from being crowned French champions, the players and directors of the Aviron Bayonnais headed to Bayonne City Hall.
“You taught us a lesson about courage, brotherhood and perseverance. You went all the way in this human endeavour, and you made people happy, as the Aviron Bayonnais is part of the DNA of our city,” declared Mr Etchegaray summing up a fine season.
He then made an important announcement: “I have decided to see through the setting up of a performance and training centre at the Jean-Dauger Stadium.” After the applause following this big news story, Antoine Battut and Philippe Tayeb were offered the city’s gold medal.
Proof of the solid support from Bayonne City Council for the Aviron Bayonnais over the years.
