2018 ELMS: IDEC SPORT IN SPA-FRANCORCHAMPS THIS WEEKEND

IDEC SPORT will be in Belgium this weekend to compete in the Spa-Francorchamps 4-Hour Race. The two LMP2s will be taking part. Paul Lafargue, Paul-Loup Chatin and Memo Rojas will be driving the Oreca #28. Patrice Lafargue, Erik Maris and Aurélien Panis will be behind the wheel of the Ligier #27.

IDEC SPORT is heading to the Ardennes to compete in the fifth and penultimate leg of the 2018 European Le Mans Series Championship: the Spa-Francorchamps 4-Hour Race. For this event, we will see the #28 drivers, Paul Lafargue, Memo Rojas and Paul-Loup Chatin, who have made it to pole position three times this season (Le Mans 24Hr race, Paul Ricard 4-Hour race and the Red Bull Ring 4-Hour race) and two podiums in four races (at the Monza 4-Hour Race and at the Silverstone 4-Hour Race). As for the Ligier #27, Patrice Lafargue and Erik Maris will be joined by Aurélien Panis (son of Olivier Panis, the winner of the 1996 Monaco GP race in F1).

Aurélien Panis took part in the trials in the Ligier IDEC SPORT. He will make his debut in the LMP2 and in the ELMS this weekend on the legendary Spa-Francorchamps track. Used to single-seaters, Aurélien will have to get used to a different way of doing things to do well in endurance racing: “This is my first time in a closed car, but aerodynamically, it is similar to a single-seater, so I’m not lost, even if I haven’t been behind the wheel for a while. It’s great fun driving this car,” admitted the 23 year old driver, who has already driven before on the 7.004 Belgian circuit. “The trials with IDEC SPORT at the Red Bull Ring went well and I’m pleased to be entering the ELMS. The number of cars on the track is something new to me. I started to work on that on the Red Bull Ring and we’re lucky to have Nicolas Minassian in the team, so I was able to talk things through with him and take advantage of his experience. I’d like to thank Patrice Lafargue for this great opportunity.”

Just three points off second place in the overall rankings, IDEC SPORT will be trying hard to gain the upper hand over the 15 other LMP2s. The two IDEC SPORT crews will take advantage of 90 minute trials to get the LMP2s set up as well as possible. The Oreca will be attempting to dominate her rivals during the twelve minute qualifier (Saturday 22nd at 1354hrs). The 40 competitors will line up for the start of the Spa-Francorchamps 4-Hour Race on Sunday 23rd September at 1230hrs, ready to deal with the famous Eau rouge corner.
