One more step towards the start

The eve of the start of any race is always a special moment and the one preceding the Route du Rhum – Destination Guadeloupe is maybe even more special.

With festivities in full swing for a week now, the skippers and their teams are busy dealing the final little details, gradually cutting themselves off from the outside world. Today (Saturday) was one more step towards the race itself. And it is a major leap in fact, as they have been leaving the pontoons.

The maxi-trimaran IDEC SPORT cast off early this afternoon just after Sodebo Ultim’. Aboard, Francis, the shore team and a few well-known keen supporters, Gwénolé Gahinet and Bernard Stamm (holders of the Jules Verne Trophy with Francis). It was a fast trip with the crowds turning out ashore and on the water in the sunshine in Saint-Malo… The boat is now moored up to a buoy close to the neighbouring resort of Dinard. Her skipper can hardly wait for the start tomorrow at 1300hrs UTC.
