The skipper of the IDEC SPORT maxi-trimaran plans to give the green light tomorrow (Friday). This means that they will be setting off around the world within the following 48 hours to attempt to win the Jules Verne Trophy. The boat and crew are already ready and waiting to cast off from Brest.
Francis Joyon: “We shall probably be making the most of the first weather opportunity, which arises. Because you can never be certain there will be another one. We can’t afford to miss out on what nature and the winds offer us. We have to go, when we have to go.” This statement from Francis Joyon could be coming true within the next 48 to 72 hours, with a possible start this weekend, and maybe as soon as Saturday 21st November.

There will be just six aboard the IDEC SPORT Ultlme trimaran: Francis Joyon (FRA) Bernard Stamm (SUI), Gwénolé Gahinet (FRA), Alex Pella (ESP), Clément Surtel (FRA) and Boris Herrmann (GER) attempting to improve on the Jules Verne Trophy time. The numbers speak for themselves: they have to sail around the world in less than 45 and a half days… averaging 20 knots.
