ROUTE DU RHUM 2026 – LOGBOOK – DAY 2

Tuesday 3 November 2026 – Recharging as the front approaches!

The end of the night was calmer aboard the Ultim IDEC SPORT-CIC. The easing winds slowed the maxi-trimaran down, but gave Alexia Barrier a chance to keep recovering after the physical intensity of the first hours of racing. No major manoeuvre for now: as the front approaches, she is watching how the weather develops before deciding on the next steps, including sail choices, with her shore team.

In Alexia Barrier’s words:

“The night went rather well, it was fairly calm at the end of the night as we approached the front, with easing winds. A lower speed, and I took the opportunity to keep getting my strength back. No crazy manoeuvres on my side for now.

I’m waiting to see how the weather settles to make a strategic choice with my team, and sail choices too. You have to be patient, so I’m waiting to see how things develop.

It’s funny because I had really prepared for this front crossing, hour by hour, from 5 a.m.: you have to do this, that and that. And then it doesn’t go like that at all. This sport is really fun. It goes to show we’re not the ones calling the shots, really, the elements always have the final say.”
