IDEC SPORT rounded the legendary Cape Horn at 0350hrs UTC on Tuesday night. Francis Joyon and his crew of five took 31 days 1 hour 47 minutes to sail from Ushant to the tip of South America.
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Horn and the Pacific are now behind them. The men on IDEC SPORT are now tackling the climb back up the South Atlantic. As they rounded the Horn, they were only 3h29 behind the time set by Lo\u00efck Peyron. The bigger Banque Populaire V took 30 days 22 hours and 18 minutes.<\/p>\n

In spite of a difficult final approach to the Horn, this is a good result for Francis Joyon (FRA), Bernard Stamm (SUI), Gw\u00e9nol\u00e9 Gahinet (FRA), Alex Pella (ESP), Cl\u00e9ment Surtel (FRA) and Boris Herrmann (GER).<\/p>\n

IDEC SPORT\u2019s average speed over the 20,370 miles actually sailed between Ushant and Cape Horn was impressive: 27.3 knots.<\/p>\n

\nIDEC SPORT set off at 0202hrs UTC on Sunday 22nd November 2015.<\/p>\n

. The time to beat<\/strong>
\nLo\u00efck Peyron and his crew of 13 (Banque Populaire V in 2012) with a time of 45 days, 13 hours, 42 minutes and 53 seconds. Averaging 19.75 knots on the theoretical route and 26.5 knots on the 28,965 miles actually sailed. To beat the Jules Verne Trophy record, IDEC SPORT has to cross the line before Wednesday 6th January 2016 at 1544hrs UTC.<\/p>\n
