As part of their preparations for the Jules Verne Trophy challenge, the sailors aboard the IDEC SPORT maxi-trimaran traveled to South Shields Marine School in northern England for advanced training in sea survival and risk prevention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aim is to give the entire crew as many opportunities as possible to see, understand, and use the safety equipment they have on board the boat, which, let’s not forget, can reach speeds of over 40 knots, and to discuss the various safety techniques.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As co-skipper Dee Caffari points out: \u201cWe are always at the mercy of nature, the waves, the sea, the wind, the rain, and the cold, which constantly dictate our routine. Being in real conditions is a good way to realize the reality of the situation.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“You can’t imagine how hard it is to hear each other when you’re in the water in the rain, for example! So it’s important to have the right techniques for communicating through signs and gestures,<\/em>” adds skipper Alexia Barrier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The eight girls took part in this essential training course with their partner Ocean Safety, hoping that they won’t have to put everything they learned into practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
