With heavy rain expected in the late afternoon and a yellow alert for strong winds later in the day, the start was finally given at 11:00 a.m. (UK time), an hour earlier than planned, allowing the race to take place before the bad weather arrived. Under the watchful eye of a large crowd, the #28 and #18 cars took to the dry track for the start of the 4 Hours of Silverstone.<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was a particularly eventful race from the outset, starting with a safety car on the first lap, followed by two red flags after 16 and 25 laps respectively, then another safety car. Paul Lafargue, in the #28 car, got off to a great start and handed over to Job Van Uitert in 9th place after the first hour and a half of this disjointed race. At the same time, Mathys Jaubert took over from Jamie Chadwick in the #18 car in 10th place. The Dutchman and the native of Salon-de-Provence immediately embarked on a comeback, moving up to 6th and 5th place. During the pit stops, they handed over the wheel of their Oreca LMP2 to Paul-Loup Chatin and Dani Juncadella, this time on a very wet track, forcing them to put on rain tires. At that point, there was 1 hour and 30 minutes of racing left.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After two free practice sessions and a mixed qualifying session, IDEC SPORT implemented a successful race strategy and managed to position the #18 car, sporting the colors of Genesis Magma Racing, at the top of the overall standings after 72 laps, with the #28 car in 8th place.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After 104 laps, the #18 car won the overall race, having gained 10 places, and the #28 car finished 4th (gaining 8 places). IDEC SPORT thus secured its third victory of the season in five rounds (two overall and one in its category) with Jamie Chadwick, Mathys Jaubert, and Dani Juncadella. Silverstone is a race that it had already won six years ago, in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“A typical motorsport weekend has just taken place at Silverstone. We didn’t do any testing on this circuit apart from the usual collective tests on Thursday. We had a tough time during free practice and qualifying, but everyone gave their all and never gave up. The team and drivers stuck together to find the details we might have been missing. And now we’ve been rewarded. I’m very proud of this team. The team can savor this victory and fourth place.<\/em>“<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This is a great victory for the whole team. We qualified in 11th place, so it’s fair to say we weren’t in a great position. The rain was a welcome relief for us. Our strategic choices paid off. At Imola, it was my\u00a0fault, I messed up and we lost a lot of points. I won’t go back over SPA, which also cost us a lot. But we’re back in the race and that’s the most important thing. We’re more united than ever.<\/em>” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFinally, a result that the IDEC SPORT team deserves. It’s been a complicated weekend, but we’ve managed to come out with our heads held high. At the start of the race, it was clearly a matter of survival, with the challenge at each restart of getting the tires back up to the right temperature.
